Do you want to know about a Cruelty-Free, Alcohol, Fragrance and Paraben Free cleansing water and makeup remover that only costs £1.00 for up to 100 uses? Well, these are just some of the good points about the Derma V10 Micellar Cleansing Water, which I’m about to review. read on to find out more…
First things first though.
What is Micellar Water?
(Pronounced: Mi-cel-lar)
Micellar Water is a soft water containing a collection of tiny little balls of oil, or molecules. These tiny oil molecules are actually called Micelles.
Since oil and water don’t mix or emulsify, the Micelles are suspended in the soft water rather than being dissolved in it.
The two elements, soft water and Micelles, combined to formulate the basis of Micellar Water and this concoction acts as an effective yet gentle skin cleansing agent.
Being made up of oil, Micelle particles naturally attract other oil particles along with makeup, dirt and grime much in the same way that a magnet attracts metal. This is the basic mechanism that’s at work in all Micellar Waters and it’s their magnetic qualities that allow them to draw out oil and other impurities away from the skin.
How did the Micellar Water trend start?
The French pharmacy skincare phenomenon really started to gain global recognition sometime around 2012. Brands like La Roche Posay, Bioderma and Nuxe became all the rage and we quickly saw what was once a niche product, something that most people had never even heard of in the UK (let alone know how to pronounce) smash into the UK market and suddenly we had some kind of Micellar Water Mania on our hands! Garnier
These days, Micellar Water is old news and it’s just about as basic a

What’s the best way to use Micellar Water?
This Micellar Water from Derma V10 is a cleanser come makeup remover. It can be applied to a cotton pad and wiped across the entire face including around the (closed) eyes, lips, face and neck. It helps to remove makeup, dirt and oil from the skin without the need to rinse anything away afterwards.
This cleansing w
Where can I buy this Micellar Water?
You can buy the Derma V10 Micellar Cleansing Water (200ml, £1.00) from various discount retailers including Poundland and it can also be found online and ordered via Amazon or Ebay for a slightly higher price.
Could this Micellar Water be right for me?
This Derma V10 Micellar Cleansing Water is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
It’s probably most appropriate for anyone who requires an inexpensive, no-frills face cleanser with pretty decent makeup removal capabilities.
It would also be a good option for anybody who only buys cruelty-free beauty products or if you simply prefer to buy cruelty-free where possible. Quite a few products from Derma V10 are also vegan-friendly and this Micellar Water is actually one of them according to the Healthpoint website. Sadly, it doesn’t seem to explicitly state this anywhere on the product itself and the lack of specific vegan labelling may mean that some Vegans feel happier not using this product because of the lack of clarity on the label.
What are the Ingredients are in the Derma V10 Micellar Cleansing Water?
What’s the Packaging like?
This Micellar Water is packaged in a clear, slim plastic bottle with a blue flip-up lid. It has printed sticky labels on the front and back.
Derma V10 products are usually packaged in recyclable materials.
What are the Benefits of using Derma V10 Micellar Water?
This water-based cleanser is hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested. It doesn’t contain any alcohol, artificial fragrances or parabens but it does have a few beneficial additives including Pro-Vitamin B5, Aloe Vera, Chamomile and Vitamin E.
It’s cruelty-free, almost certainly vegan-friendly and It’s also made right here in the UK.
What are some alternative budget Micellar Water products?
There aren’t too many similar alternative Micellar Waters available that are permanently priced as low as this one from Derma V10 but there are a few that are as cheap, if not cheaper.
I found a cheaper one when compared by cost per ml from Sainsbury’s. Their 500ml bottle of Micellar Water is £2.00 meaning that it costs the equivalent of 80p for an equal 200ml volume of their product.
At a slightly higher, yet still budget-friendly price point, there are actually lots of options to choose from including cleansing waters from brands like Garnier, Aldi, Boots, Superdrug, Nivea and the list goes on and on… Some of these branded Micellar Waters have a regular RRP of around £4 but they are frequently on offer and half price Cleansing Water bargains aren’t an uncommon find when shopping.
Bargains and reductions mean that you can more or less price match this Derma V10 Micellar Water quite easily on the High Street when you take into consideration the effects of temporary discounts and sales on pricing. For example, The B. Pure Micellar Water is currently half price in Superdrug, down from £4.49 to £2.19 for 400ml. This makes cost about £1.10 per 200ml, making it only 10p more for an equivalent 200ml quantity and you would need to purchase the larger 400ml bottle to achieve those cost per ml savings.
Whether or not you actually have the time or inclination to chase the latest Micellar Water deals and bargains is an altogether different matter too. Perhaps you prefer to stick with a more dependable product, in which case Derma V10 can be trusted to deliver on the consistently cheap and stable pricing.
Review Overview: My Thoughts on the Derma V10 Cleansing Micellar Water
I think that this Micellar water is a good product to have on hand for day to day face cleansing and makeup removal. It does leave skin refreshed and feels like a pleasant and gentle formula. My skin even feels soft and supple enough to go without moisturising afterwards if I want to.
I think the biggest downside for me is that a lot more product is needed than what’s suggested as being typical and this product doesn’t make super light work of removing makeup.
2 ml per use, no way, Jose!
Personally, I don’t think I’ll get even close to anything up to 100 uses from this 200ml bottle, especially when using it to remove makeup. I think makeup removal requires a lot of Micellar Water per cotton pad and several well-soaked cotton pads are needed to remove a full face of makeup. This is something I noticed about the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water for sensitive skin which also cites 2 ml as an indication of the amount required per use. I find that 2 ml is usually not nearly enough and I use more like double, triple, quadruple, quintuple or even sextuple that! Regardless of the exact specifics, the rate at which the bottle empties tells me all I need to know!
Effective Makeup Remover?
As I mentioned earlier, I don’t think this Derma V10 Micellar Cleansing Water is absolutely fantastic at removing a full face of makeup, especially if it’s been firmly fixed in place with long wearing products. This cleanser struggles to take everything off completely and a fair bit of rubbing is still needed sometimes. However, it doesn’t have to be a great makeup remover to actually work. And it is workable if you’re willing to work with it and use a sufficient amount of product on a sufficient number of cotton pads. If you’re looking for a more oily Micellar Water with heavy duty makeup removing capabilities, I’d recommend the Garnier Oil Infused Micellar Water which gets everything off in a flash. I have a review of that one coming soon so watch this space…
Final Thoughts…
Back to this Micellar Water: I think it might be better suited for use as a second cleanse, where the bulk of makeup has already been taken off. I don’t think that this product has got quite the same standard of magnetic properties as I’ve seen with some other Micellar Waters like the Garnier Oil Infused one and I bet that this product has a lower oil content or fewer Micelles overall than others. However, a lighter, less oily formula does mean no filmy residue is left behind on the skin, which is a bonus for a no-rinse product.
Negatives aside, It’s a very useable product for that’s cheap and convenient enough for most of us to repurchase on a regular basis if we find that we want to or need to buy more.
It doesn’t sting or irritate my eyes or taste awful and believe me, some Micellar Waters do taste absolutely disgusting when unavoidable remnants of it are left behind on the lips. It doesn’t leave my pores open, make my skin red or cause me to develop any dry patches of skin.
This Micellar Water feels tingly fresh on the skin and although it’s probably not doing anything other than making my skin feel tingly, fresh and clean, that’s all I really want it to do anyway!
Hyped-up pseudoscience? Just a face wipe upgrade?
Sometimes, I can’t help but think that despite the sophisticated science and nuanced technology, Micellar Water + A Cotton Pad = A Face Wipe!
Yes, albeit a newer and slightly less frowned upon variation of the classic lazy girl’s go-to facial cleanser come makeup remover, but still the same thing more or less. The real difference is that the humble face wipe has apparently become much maligned, if not outright hated, in recent years and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Micellar Water hasn’t swooped in and taken a large share of that established facial cleansing market.
I think that this Derma V10 Micellar Cleansing Water has a whole host of positives going for it which are enough to outweigh any negatives.
Verdict: Would I repurchase the Derma V10 Micellar Cleansing Water again? You bet I would!

Love this review Hanna! I’ve heard of Micellar water before but never really understood what it was. It looks like water in a bottle that they’re calling something else, but for the face!! LOL. I thought this was very helpful and very informative. I love a face wash where your face feels nice and soft in the end…enough where you may not need to go for the extra moisturizing step haha 🙂
Hi Geraldine! One of the things I love most about Micellar Water is actually being able to skip moisturizer if I want to! Great minds think alike I guess! Haha
Thanks so much for supporting my blog Geraldine! I love reading your comments! x
Love that Micellar Water is super affordable. Big plus when it does so much good. It is interesting how this works – great way to draw out the impurities. Love that you enjoyed using this product. It is nice when companies are considerate of cruelty-free options. Love the packaging of this product! Straight to the point without all of the extra stuff. Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing your thoughts :).

I don’t think that I’ve ever heard of this brand before – for £1, it is unbeatable value! I like micellar waters for convenience but don’t use them on a daily basis xx
Hi Siobhan!
Derma V10 are honestly such a budget freindly beauty brand with a whole bunch of bargain products. Much of their range is priced at £1.

Thanks for such an honest and in depth review, I’m glad that you mentioned that it doesn’t make light work of makeup removal. I’ve never really got on with Micellar Water because of that and I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who thinks so!

Hi Soph!
It is nice to know that we both feel the same way about Micellar Water being a substandard makeup remover!

What a post! You really did your homework here and I like your conclusion. Currently I’m just keeping it simple with removing my make up, but after learning all about micellar water, I will keep my eyes open for next time I’m shopping.

Aw, thank you so much, that’s very sweet of you to say! 🙂
There’s a whole world of Micellar Water out there just waiting for you to try!
Hope you find a good one, my love!

What an informative post, Hanna! I do LOVE micellar water and I usually used it on my first and third cleasing! So, the routine usually started with cleaning my makeup using micellar water, washing my face with face wash, and then cleaning my face again using the micellar water, y’know, just in case!
This is such a great post and so informative! I agree, I think 2ml is probably unlikely – I use absolutely loads as my first point of make-up removal and there’s no way I could make 2ml do all the work! xx
Hi Sascha! I completely agree! Even the cotton pad must soak up more than 2ml at a time. I need to use quite a bit of it for makeup removal, way more than 2 ml anyway, that’s for sure! Hanna x
